Horror Movies From The 1900s That You Need To Watch!

With so many new horror movies being released left and right, fans of the horror genre have a lot of variety. However, while these new movies keep getting more creative and realistic (thanks to special effects and talented makeup artists), we can’t deny that the old horror movies have a certain charm to them. Even if their special effects may not be as gruesome as what we can find now, they add to the horror factor and blend in pretty seamlessly.

So, today, we have compiled a list of some of the old horror movies from the 1900s that we believe have shaped horror movies to be what they are today! Go through the list and start streaming (if you are brave enough to, of course)! However, before you do start with the streaming bit, make sure to check your internet connection. If you are in the market for changing your internet connection, try Astound Broadband RCN. RCN is available in 10 states in the U.S., but it is undoubtedly a great option!

Be sure to check out the ISP and update your connection before resuming the horror movie marathon!

Alien (1979)

Do you remember the terror that gripped the public once they first watched Jaws? Well, Alien is basically the same, except that people are stuck in space rather than on a boat. Nostromo is a commercial space tug with a seven-member crew: Captain Dallas, Executive Officer Kane, Warrant Officer Ripley, Navigator Lambert, Science Officer Ash, and engineers Parker and Brett. When they make an unplanned stop on the moon and find an alien ship, they decide to investigate it.

The crew quickly realizes that they made a mistake, however, it is too late for them at that point. As they are battling it out with the alien (or at least trying to), one by one, the crew members begin losing these battles. This film brings together the sci-fi and horror genres making an intense, creepy, grotesquerie film that will have you holding your breath in anticipation of what comes next.

Poltergeist (1982)

Any movie written by Steven Spielberg is a masterpiece and no, this statement is not up for discussion! While most of us remember the name Stephen Spielberg from Jurassic Park, as it turns out, he writes a very good horror story as well! Poltergeist might not be the bloody and grotesque horror film that you are looking for, but that is what makes it so good. This movie takes the elements of a horror film and places them in a manner that will have you jump at every little thing.

But of course, a good horror movie does not necessarily have to be all bloody to bring the audience to that state of fear. Watching this movie will definitely have you on the edge of your seats waiting for the next move!

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

One of the most iconic and timeless horror movies is A Nightmare on Elm Street. This movie will leave you confused as to what is real and what isn’t. A girl’s life is turned upside down when she has a nightmare about a disfigured man wearing a blade-fixed glove attacking her. When she awakens, she notices four slashes on her nightgown. Soon, she learns that she is not alone in having these horrific nightmares and that her friends are also experiencing the same thing.

Things take a horrific turn when the friends quickly realize that the disfigured man is not just a part of their nightmares, but that he is capable of leaving the dream world and actually hurting them. The movie was directed by Wes Craven and you can certainly tell that from the flow of this movie.

The Vanishing (1988)

The best kind of horror movie is the one that is so normal that it gives you an existential crisis. The Vanishing is that kind of movie that makes you wonder how easily this could’ve been you. A young couple is on holiday in France and stops at a rest area for the night. When the girl goes to buy drinks, she never returns. Fast forward to three years later, the boyfriend is in another relationship, but he is still searching for answers.

The story is pretty simple and it is definitely not the bloody or jump scare sort of horror movie you usually watch. It has elements of mystery and it is horrifying due to the normality of the situation and how we can easily imagine ourselves in this situation.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Whether you have watched this movie or not, you must have definitely heard about Hannibal Lecter. Well, mix that up with Ted Bundy and how he had provided insights into the Green River Killer’s thoughts and killing spree. And that’s how you get The Silence of the Lambs. Clarice Starling is an FBI trainee assigned to serial killer Hannibal Lecter to interview him and get his help on the “Buffalo Bill” case. However, Hannibal does not want to make it easy for the police and so, he suggests a confession game.

Clarice agrees to Hannibal’s game and so, here begins the intense chase where the police have to race against time to find the true identity of Buffalo Bill. The movie is the perfect intense and stomach-knotting kind of tense film that will have you reeling long after the movie is finished.

Conclusion

Make sure you update your internet connection, especially if it’s causing major problems. A horror movie won’t really be horrifying when buffering repeatedly now, would it? Click here to find yourself a good internet plan at a good price.

If you have already watched all of these horror movies, props to you for knowing all the classics! While there are plenty more we could add to this list, there are only so many we can fit into one article. In fact, because of the number of iconic and timeless horror movies we have in the 1900s, we would need more than just one or two articles! Who knows? You might find yourself a second part of this article as well, sometime in the future! Until then, adios mi amigos!
